Mechanical Insulators LMCT | Lonely and Depressed on Valentine's Day

Coping with Depression and Grief on Valentine’s Day

When you remove the corporate and social pressures of Valentine’s Day, the core idea is lovely: It’s a day to celebrate the romantic and/or platonic love in your life. But if you’re struggling with feelings of depression or grief on Valentine’s Day, that core idea may be extremely painful.

Mental Health for Caregivers and Family Support

Caregivers Need the Most Support

With all of the feel-good emotions tied to helping others can caregiving also be one of the most emotionally and physically draining experiences of our lives?  Could it be that while we are pouring into someone, no one is refilling our tank?

Supporting the Family Members of Someone Struggling with Addiction

Substance abuse is a chronic disease that has a deep impact on the whole family. The family is a system; changing one part of a system influences all other parts of the system. When one family member struggles with addiction, the whole family bears the full burden. We mostly focus on the person struggling with substance misuse, but their family members need support too.

Mary Harris’ Story

Member Testimonial

As an active and proud member of my Local Union, my work responsibilities sometimes require me to be away from home. After a recent divorce, I find myself as a single dad raising my wonderful family with as much love and effort to the best of my ability. I’m sure many people can relate to those challenges.

One of my children has pretty severe autism and is nonverbal, a challenge for anyone, but especially for a single working dad. One Saturday, my child had a major meltdown, and after exhausting all my efforts, I got to the point where I didn’t know what to do. I recalled a service that I heard Gina Walsh, LMCT Deputy Director, promote a program called IMAP.

Still unsure if IMAP could help, I contacted my Local Union officer, who gave me the IMAP contact information to reach IMAP. I felt “I had nothing to lose” by calling them.

That was the best thing I did; things could not have gone better. IMAP connected me to resources to help with care when I needed it most. This is nothing short of a miracle for a single working dad who was at wits end with a situation. They were responsive and understanding and kindly explained everything available through the program. I am currently processing the available services, and they have reached out to keep me informed along the way.

I’m very impressed and appreciated the help when I needed it most. Thank you to the LMCT, International and IMAP for all your hard work. It has made a difference in my and my family’s lives, especially for my child, who needs assistance. Thank you.
