Political Activism for the Mechanical Insulation Industry
The Mechanical Insulators Labor Management Cooperative Trust (LMCT) was established to advocate on behalf of the Mechanical Insulation industry.
As such, the LMCT works to educate and influence those who make decisions that may impact our industry. This can include various situations where the Mechanical Insulators LMCT will advocate for or resist a political change.
The Mechanical Insulators LMCT combats So-Called “Right to Work” legislation at the state and federal levels to represent the best interest of labor and the building and construction industries. This legislation puts those working in the mechanical insulation industry at risk. Furthermore, So-Called “Right to Work” legislation allows apprenticeship programs to be instituted that are subpar to the already existing U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Programs.
The Davis-Bacon ACT
This legislation applies to contractors and subcontractors performing work on federal or District of Columbia contracts. This is another issue we support. Prevailing Wage laws, including Davis-Bacon, require construction contractors who work on publicly funded projects to pay construction workers at least the Prevailing Wages and benefits in the area in which they are working. Prevailing Wages are the actual hourly wages, benefits and overtime to be paid to workers, as calculated by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Our industry has evolved throughout the years, as materials once considered industry standards have been replaced by newer, safer materials. Legislative change is typically needed to remove these antiquated materials from our industry.
Through political activism, the Mechanical Insulators LMCT has helped the Mechanical Insulation industry fight for better working conditions and standards, which help our affiliated contractors and members of the Insulators Union continue to provide for their families.
